Plant-A-Tree

Our Boynton Beach Garden Club is proud to participate in Plant-A-Tree (previously Penny Pines) under a Conservation Agreement with the USDA Forest Service program which assists our national forests through forest restoration.

Our Garden Club first began its participation in 2012 by collecting pennies, change, and dollar bills in a jar from our members at each meeting.  The National Forest Service uses the monies to replace and plant trees indigenous to a particular area damaged by fire or a natural catastrophe.

The original Penny Pines Program was started in 1941 by a woman’s sport association in California.  Since the origin of that program, organizations all over the country have coordinated and helped to maintain and support the conservation of America’s natural resources and public forests.  The National Garden Club (NGC) began its affiliation with Penny Pines in 2004; and likewise, the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs (FFGC) participates in Penny Pines and its reforestation efforts in Florida.
